Apvlvm in 3D

Besides the so-called normal documentation techniques in the 2014 excavation we also use photo3D survey. At first the remains of the last year’s excavation has been modelled by some thousand of oblique photographs and more than a hundred control points. Because of the very long processing time, thanks to our colleagues it was calculated on their server.

The first impression is very exciting. We have a model which covers more than the 2/3rd part of the trench, its DEM (Digital Elevation Model) resolution is 1 centimetre and also has a detailed real-orthographic view of the surveyed area.

Our plan is to use this method parallel with the other documentation phases. With the help of its accuracy and detailed information we can check the deviation in our drawings and other measured things and all the students can realise its possibilities in archaeological context.
